  • How do you burn my “sins”?

We “burn” “sins” in two ways.

    1. We help you to realize your sin and to cope with it through the SSS (Sinburning’s Seven Steps) method that leads you to forgiveness.

    2. We symbolically annihilate the embodiment of your sin, your written confession, by the ancient method of burning by fire.

The actual Sinburning works as follows:

    • We do physically burn your confession on Sinburning day that is always the last Sunday of each month.  On our homepage we announce the exact starting time of the ritual in GMT (London) time.

    • Shortly before the ritual, we print out each confession on paper.

    • We place all the confessions in a special, consecrated metal vessel.

    • After initial prayers and common meditation, we set the notes on fire exactly at the aforementioned time.

    • The elevated state of the ceremony is enhanced by the spiritual presence of those whose confessions are being burned.

    • After the burning, the ashes are dissolved in a nearby river, and confirmation emails are sent.

Can I burn my confession myself?

We advise you NOT to do so. It is very hard to burn your confession safely.

Practically, the Sinburners and its affiliates cannot take any responsibility on how you physically get rid of your copy or file. You can eliminate your written confession in your chosen way. You might simply erase it from your computer or tear it into pieces.

Please, do it so it does not hurt you or others and it is not harmful to the environment.

    Back to questions

Do the Sinburners forgive my sins?

    No, the process works differently.

    • The sins in your confession will be forgiven by the eternal spiritual forces through your own conscience

    • The most important, final step is that you forgive yourself, learn form the experience and move on.

    • The ritual of Sinburning is both a milestone and a self-help tool in this spiritual mental and social process.

    • The Sinburners do not presume to have the right to grant forgiveness, but rather help you as mediators to achieve it.

Any practical advice on how to write my confession?

As a main rule, the only wrong confession is the one you do not write.

Most probably you are doing your best if your feelings are present during the writing process.

Our only advice is that you should include the 2 phrases in your confession:

    • “Please forgive me for…”
       and
    • “I do fully and for good forgive myself and will move on…”

You can find a more information on how to formulate you confession by visiting our “Send a Confession" page.

    Back to questions

How can I send my letter anonymously?

Your email address and your confessions are strictly confidential, and not used or forwarded in any way. You can, and advised to read our Privacy Policy here.

If you want to be extra cautious, you can use a free Yahoo, Gmail, or similar address dedicated for mailing your letter anonymously.

You can read more about how to write and send your confession on our dedicated Send a Confession” page.

    Back to questions

What kind of sins can I send in? Only serious ones?

Not at all. You can feel guilt, blame or discomfort even if you did not commit a “sin” in the traditional meaning of the word.

Also, many people do not sin against others, but rather end up hurting themselves—and, in this sense, they are also “sinning”.

In short, you might want to eliminate the feelings of guilt or blame about all kinds of sins and mistakes, small and big, done against others or against yourself.

    Back to questions

What if I committed a “real” sin?

Most sins and mistakes are more or less serious acts against others or themselves, but not crimes.

But if you have unlawful acts in your past, you are fully responsible for those, and you might have to face the community that created the laws and regulations you transgressed – or the community itself might force you to do so.

In any case, we encourage you to actively make amends for the damages you have done. You might seek and get all the just help to learn from your past to avoid committing any “real sins” again.

One more important thing: Nobody is judging your confession, and we do not forward it to third parties. Nonetheless, it is your responsibility to formulate your anonymous confession so that neither you nor your particular act are identifiable in any way.

    Back to questions

I used to confess my sins in a church. Is burning my sin better?

No. It is different, and if you already belong to a church, we encourage you to confess there, too.

Facing your past mistakes is a tiring experience, and you deserve to get ALL the appropriate help available. Confession in a church is one of these ways.

The act of Sinburning does not contradict any religions - it is a new, effective spiritual act and a symbolic milestone that helps you in a different way, whether alone or together with other, traditional methods and beliefs.

    Back to questions

How dare you take authority to deal with anyone’s sin?

We do not claim any authority – we simply offer our help and compassion to those who accept it and who are willing to participate in the act of Sinburning.

We put in our dedication and work as intermediaries in the process of helping others achieve forgiveness.

    Back to questions

Do I have to be religious to send you a confession?

Not at all. You do not have to fulfill any special criteria to get forgiveness from the eternal forces and from your own conscience. You are worthy of and deserve pardon, whether you are religious or not.

It is worthwhile, however, to find a way of connectedness with the spiritual forces of the universe – your own way, which fits your culture and personality.

    Back to questions

    Are you critical toward religions?

We do not criticize and debate any religions. Also, we do not want to influence your belief and your way of thinking.

We simply offer a community, a tool and a self-help method that works either you are religious or not.

In fact, if you believe in any of the existing positive belief systems, you can utilize the method of Sinburning together with the helping tools of your religion and we encourage you to do so.

Remember. You are worthy to get and use all positive help available for you – including Sinburning.

    Back to questions

    Are you religious?

Yes and no. Most of our members are, but they belong to many religions.

Other members believe in the eternal spiritual force omnipotent in all existence, and are not religious.

The ceremony  is not tied to any specific religion – it is more of a self-help tool and a connection to the eternal forces in once.

    Back to questions

Can I confess to you in person?

No. Admitting your mistakes and getting forgiveness through Sinburning operates on a different state of connectedness than a personal level could possibly ensure.

Therefore we urge you to send your confession to us anonymously.

You might, however, have some personal, sin-related questions and you might receive valuable information through our Personal Assistance Program.

This service is not a confession and you do not receive forgiveness from us – rather a personal opinion about how to device your Own Seven Steps toward a guilt-free life.

    Back to questions

Where are you located? Where do you burn the confessions?

Sinburning.org is an international community and it exists mainly online.

The monthly Sinburning process usually takes place in private locations in the US /EU where we can gather legally, and which has a spiritual importance. On our homepage we announce the location of the monthly ritual.

The founding members will gather this year in the religiously important island of Malta. We are currently searching for a permanent location in Malta and also have an US mailing address:  (Please note: there is no office at this location.)

    Back to questions

    Are you Satanists?

No. And we do not perform voodoo, dark magic, or anything similar. Nor do we seek to “rule the world.”

The Sinburners are not against anything – they are here to assist those who seek forgiveness and connectedness with the eternal spirit.

    Back to questions

Can I be present during the burning?

    1. Yes, you are!

    • In a way, you are present during the ceremony if you participate in it in any way.

    • If you email us your confession, it contains all your remorse and longing for forgiveness.

    • In short, wherever you are, if you “participate”, even in just thoughts in the ritual, you are truly PRESENT.

    2. Yes, in the future.

    • We store the confessions on our server and print them out shortly before the actual ceremony. We are not “bound” to any physical locations, and because of the international character of our core membership (mostly busy professionals), last minute changes of venue are at this point not uncommon.

    • Therefore, we do not organize public Sinburning events as of now, but our aim is to have several ceremonies in different countries on Sinburning Day, giving a chance for confessors to participate in person in the near future.

    Back to question

Is there a fee to pay?

We do not charge any fees whatsoever for this spiritual help. But running this site and organize monthly Sinburning events cost real money.

Therefore donations are accepted to administer necessary costs involved in the process, such as web administration, printing, securing a location etc.

We plan to expand our website so it allows anonymous but public written confessions and a live, webcam broadcast during the ceremony. Due to limited funding, this new site is a work in progress.

Also, our experience is that donating even a small amount can be a sign of commitment for the confessor itself.

Please, donate only the amount you feel to be fair and can comfortably afford!

    Back to questions

How can I be a supporting friend of Sinburning?

You can be a supporting friend many ways.

You can spread the news about Sinburning and its helping tools. You can also participate in our Personal Assistance Program.

Either way you want to become a supporting friend, you can send your donation via PayPal.

If you want to avoid the – unlikely - chance that your donation and your confession might be linked, you can always use a different email address for the contribution and another one to send your confession, so there is no connection between the two.

    (You can read more here…)

    Back to questions

    Who reads my confessions?

Since not all the emails we receive are true confessions, one of our members sorts through the messages for the purpose of separating the confessions from other emails.

The content of your writing is not judged, but only true, sincere, anonymous confessions can be included into our ceremony.

If you wish to share your story and expressly allow others to read it – without “naming names,” and respecting the rights of others – you will be able to do so once we upgrade our site to a more elaborate one with improved features that will make this possible.

    Back to questions

What happens to my data after the Sinburning?

After the ceremony, we erase all the documents containing the individual confessions.

We send you a short confirmation message, indicating that you can sign up for our monthly newsletter.

If you do not actively sign up for this newsletter, we erase your email address from our system shortly after the ceremony.

    Back to questions

I disagree with your approach! How can we discuss our ideas?

If you have any deep-seated religious or other scruples about our approach, we advise you NOT to participate in Sinburning!

The Sinburners do not seek to change your beliefs or to make you do or not do anything you do not wish.

We fully respect others’ beliefs and opinions – in keeping with the principles of freedom of speech, the freedom of ideas, and democracy in general.

We hope and trust  that others accept our presence – though not necessarily our opinions.

Therefore we do not seek to engage in philosophical, religious, or personal discussions or debates with third parties.
Instead we wish them full success, health, and happiness on their own paths toward reaching their positive earthly and spiritual goals.
